Toward this end: 1. In selecting textbooks and other learning materials for a course or set of courses, the 17ГдЙЯ-De Anza Community College District adheres to the highest academic principles and underlying tenets that all faculty “are motivated by the desire for academic excellence of the material’s content and its suitability for the curriculum” taught (ASCCC Textbook Issues: Economic Pressures and Academic Values) and that a faculty member’s ability to accrue royalties or garner other financial gains receives no material consideration. The 17ГдЙЯ-De Anza Board of Trustees encourages faculty to make every effort to select the materials of the highest educational quality at the lowest cost to the extent possible, and, in the case of faculty-authored or self-published books or materials, to make their decisions by adhering to ethical adoption procedures promoted by the Academic Senate. 2. The 17ГдЙЯ-De Anza Community College District encourages the Academic Senate to develop and promote the use of adoption procedures for textbook and learning materials that visibly protect the educational and financial interests of students and avoid any appearance of student coercion or conflict of interest. 3. The 17ГдЙЯ-De Anza Board of Trustees will periodically review the textbook adoption processes and safeguards promoted by the Academic Senate and annually review the income generated by faculty authors who self-publish materials sold directly to students.
